eBay takes its cut from every sale before the money reaches you. Here's what makes up that cut — and why the profit left over is often smaller than sellers expect.

The percentage fee
The final value fee is a percentage of what the buyer pays — item price plus postage. Around 12.8% is typical for UK business sellers, but the exact rate depends on your category and any store subscription.
The fixed per-order fee
On top of the percentage, eBay charges a fixed amount per order (typically £0.30 in the UK). On low-priced items this fixed part eats a big share of the margin — a £5 sale pays proportionally far more than a £50 one.
Postage counts
Because the percentage fee applies to postage as well, free shipping funded into the item price costs you twice: the postage itself, and the fee on top of it.

How much does eBay charge UK sellers per sale?

Most UK business sellers pay a final value fee of around 12.8% of the total amount of the sale, plus a fixed per-order fee of £0.30. The exact percentage varies by category, whether you have a store subscription, and your seller level — that's why every field in this calculator is editable.

Does eBay charge the fee on postage too?

Yes. The final value fee applies to the total amount the buyer pays, including postage and any taxes handled by eBay. If you charge buyers for shipping, enter the total they pay as the sale price and the shipping cost separately as your cost.

What is the £0.30 per-order fee?

eBay UK adds a fixed fee to each order on top of the percentage fee. It applies per order, so multiple items in one basket are usually charged once — this calculator assumes a single-item order.

Do private sellers pay eBay fees in the UK?
